ひとり【一人･独り】

〔自分だけ〕 only oneself; on one's own; by oneself 〔独身〕 an unmarried man [woman]; a single man [woman].

●ひとりが一番いい. It's best being single [just yourself].

●ひとりで 〔単身で〕 by oneself; 〔独力で〕 by oneself; without help; on one's own; for oneself

・〔だれにも頼らず〕 ひとりで生きていく be independent; rely on one's own efforts; 《口》 paddle one's own boat [《英》 canoe]

・ひとりで暮らす, ひとりでいる live alone [by oneself, on one's own]; 〔独身〕 be unmarried; be single; be a bachelor [spinster]

・ひとりでやっていこうと思うのでこれぐらいの収入が必要だ. I want to live on my own, so I need this sort of income.

・ひとりで生きていくなんてできない. I can't live [survive] on my own [without you].

・ひとりで考えてごらんなさい. Try and think for yourself. | Try and think [Work] it out on your own [by yourself].

・ひとりでできますか. Can you manage on your own [by yourself]?

・ひとりでできるもん. I can do it by myself!

・放っておいてもひとりで帰ってきますよ. Leave him alone; he'll come back by himself [he is perfectly capable of coming home by himself].

●ひとりになる[残される] be left alone [to oneself]

・離婚してひとりになった. I got divorced and started living on my own.

・ようやくひとりになれた. At last I was alone [by myself]. | At last I could be by myself.

・もう, ひとりにして[しといて]くれよ. Leave me alone [to myself]. | Go away.

●ひとりの single; sole; only; alone; 《文》 solitary.

●ひとりを生きる spend one's life alone [on one's own, by oneself]; stay [remain] single

・ひとりを楽しむ like [enjoy] being alone; 《文》 love solitude [one's own company]

・ひとりを慎む be true to one's conscience [virtues] when alone.

●失礼ですが, おひとりですか. 〔今この場所で〕 Excuse me; are you by yourself [with anyone]? | 〔未婚ですか〕 Excuse me, but are you single?.
